It all started after I broke my left collarbone in Ireland. (I fell off a horse and it was very embarrassing, I’ll spare you the details.) Ever since then and even after I’ve healed, I have to sleep on my right side…sleeping on my left means I wake up with an aching arm and shoulder. Unfortunately for me, our bedroom window is on the right—meaning I woke up the second the sun came up.
I always thought sleeping with an eye mask was creepy. What if someone snuck into my room and I couldn’t see when I opened my eyes?! (I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts.) But since my Galway tumble, what once was a cute gift from a fellow cat-obsessed friend became my most essential possession. Now I can sleep on my right side through the night facing the window, without being blinded by sunshine.
Now, my satin and gingham Catwoman mask travels with me everywhere I go. As soon as the plane takes off I place it on my eyes and settle in for a cat nap…giggles at the kitten ears be damned! Plus, it’s crucial in unfamiliar hotel rooms and Airbnbs—you’d be surprised at how many don’t come with blackout curtains. On my bachelorette party last April, my sister woke up at the crack of dawn the morning after taking advantage of Savannah, GA’s friendly open container policy to sunlight streaming through the windows of the adorable historic home we rented.
You guessed it—I woke up much later, well-rested thanks to my trusty travel accessory.
Buy one for yourself here…I promise you won’t want to travel without it!
