Welcome to my book of the month column, where I recommend my couldn’t-put-it-down read of the month. Happy reading! Need more book recommendations? Find them here.
“When brilliant FBI agent Kendra Donovan stumbles back in time and finds herself in a 19th century English castle under threat from a vicious serial killer, she scrambles to solve the case before it takes her life—200 years before she was even born.”
When I first read the synopsis above, I admit I was really skeptical. To be fair, I was also skeptical of the Outlander series, and now I’ve read the entire 7,000-something page, eight book series three times… (That’s normal, right?) I then watched its transformation into an immensely successful, Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated Starz series.
Julie McElwain’s novel starts with a similar premise—a stubborn, plucky young woman finds herself transported through a portal back in time. Where Outlander is firmly rooted in historical fiction, A Murder in Time’s protagonist finds herself racing to catch a serial killer stalking the countryside in 1815.
Read because: It’s the Outlander / serial killer crossover you didn’t know you needed. It’s also one in a series, with the third novel dropping July 2018.
